first light of spring

funny how one purposeful action sometimes delivers unintentional results.
i spied the daffs on the table by the window, catching the early sun. i put them on the floor to give the picture a less fussy background by drawing the curtain behind slightly. prostrating myself on the floor - as you do - to get personal with the blooms, it wasn't until i stood up that i noticed the stripe created by the shadow of the table and curtain.

now here's a question i don't know the answer to; the actual geography of the room is the mirror of the image shown but i think it looks better this way around. we favour reading the image left to right, this way we see the flowers before the shadow which makes a better story.

reasonable theory or talking bollocks - what do you think?

Yeah, that makes sense to me, being we're trained to read that way. Anyhow, your new pics are fantastic. I love the cropping of the face on the photo of one of your colleages too.

thanks steve, good to see you dropping in btw! it's a strange one - i wonder if cultures that read right to left or top to bottom see a totally different image.

Nice... I see "retro" when I look at your Daffs.. I think it's the color combo... whatever it is.. I like it!

i don't mind retro. thanks, i'm pleased you liked it, laura. :o)

i don't know, sometimes i wish we could use little labels like they put on foods - no artificial coloring or processing. i love photoshopping but sometimes i have trouble deciding where photography ends and graphic art begins. i think i might be a bit of a purist - which might make me a bit retro. i've always liked henri cartier-bresson and he wouldn't even have his photos cropped! :D

i love details - and i'm embarrassed to big up my own picture but - i love the way the daff hangs over the shadow...like it's accidently stepped outside of its own time and space. i only wish i could say i intended it to. ;o)

Very nice perspective on this one!

it makes perfect sense, despite it never entering my head..probably because it never need to. Well spotted, Sherlock.
